Merel Elst is a photography student from Antwerp with a strong interest in food photography and still lifes. Drawing from her passion for cooking and photography, she explores how food and simple objects can evoke a sense of atmosphere and nostalgia. In her work, tranquility, composition, and small details take center stage.
Project
At Grandma’s Table departs from memories of my grandmother and the moments we spent together around the table. Through minimalist still lifes of food and tableware, I try to make that feeling of peace, warmth and nostalgia visible again. The photos don't show literal memories, but rather the feeling of them. By working with composition and subtle details, an image emerges that sits somewhere between recognition and imagination, making the everyday something personal.
